DUTY PAYBACK SCHEME
The CWU South East Anglia Branch
would like to clarify for all branch members the usage of the Duty
Payback Scheme in BT Retail Customer Service division (although this
scheme is running in all parts of BT).
Under the Duty Payback scheme
people can take between and hour and a full day/shift off at short
notice for situations NOT COVERED by the Special Leave policy and
where no annual leave is available. The time is paid back during
the company’s jeopardy hours, which can be viewed on a website.
It has come to our attention that
some team managers have misunderstood the purpose of this facility.
Special Leave (paid) covers
instances such as nursing a sick relative (e.g. a child or
dependant), a family bereavement, paternity leave, adoptive leave,
and unspecified matters of urgent domestic distress.
We would like
to emphasise to all CWU members, that the Duty Payback Scheme was
designed to supplement the Special Leave process - NOT TO REPLACE
IT!
In truth we have already had
examples of where people who took time off to care for their
children have been granted a mixture of Special Leave, Annual Leave
and Duty Payback. This is a misunderstanding of the process that
the CWU is keen to address.
We would ask all members to get
in touch with the branch if you are offered Duty Payback for an
instance where, you felt, you ought to have received Special Leave,
or, where you’ve been offered a mixture of Special Leave and Duty
Payback.
This new process is constantly
under review at national level and is currently being revised, so
your assistance in supplying information would be very useful. |
