OUR EQUALITY
OFFICERS ARE
Lead Equality
Officer
The number and prominence of Women's Equality Officers is growing
within the CWU. These officers serve on branch committees, raise issues
of local concern and assist the branch as required. They also form a
valuable link between the WAC and the branches.
Our Equality Officer is Maxiene Fraser, she also
holds the post as Eastern Region Woman's Secretary, and Assistant
Secretary for the Eastern Region (covering 27 branches in the area). You
can email her direct here.

Women
in the CWU
|
A
basic introduction to the union, for women only. This has been very
successful in the past in encouraging women within the CWU. |
| Equality
Officers |
An
intensive training course for Branch Equality Officers or those interested
in becoming one.
For further information on the above courses, members should contact
their local branch officers on 01206 213545 / 01277 227890. |
Job Sharing
In January 1989 the union reached a national agreement with BT for the
introduction of job sharing. As a result women throughout the country, in both
engineering and clerical posts, have opted to job share.
For details of the Job Share Scheme contact your local Branch.
New Technology
New technology brings new opportunities but it also brings new dangers. The WAC
has been looking carefully at the effects on women such as the possible health
risks associated with VDU work repetitive strain injury harmful chemicals and
the trend towards homeworking/teleworking.
Health and Welfare
The union has pursued agreements with the employers for cervical and breast
cancer screening, where possible, on site or paid time off for appointments at a
clinic
Future Initiatives
Many issues, like childcare, are ongoing but the WAC is also looking at new
areas such as Women in Europe, international issues, women and pensions, quota
systems and alternative work patterns.
WAC members will also help and advise individual women members regarding
problems they face at work.
