Welcome to The South East Anglia branch of the CWU |
|
Branches will be interested to note that the CWU will again be playing an active
role in commemorating IDAHO (International Day Against Homophobia).
Last year a wreath was laid outside the Iranian Embassy as a sign of respect to
all those people who had been executed by the Iranian authorities - their crime
was simply to be gay.
The CWU will be leading a protest to commemorate IDAHO on Sunday 17th
May 2009 outside the Indian High Commission. India has been chosen for a number
of reasons, mainly because it is one of the 77 countries that continue to outlaw
homosexuality. A letter will be handed in to the Commission urging the Indian
government to repeal the 1860 Penal Code, which brought the law into play. The
issue of remote sourcing and the impact this has had on our members was also a
factor in making this decision.
Those attending the protest will be asked to gather outside the Indian High
Commission from 10.45am.
The location of the protest can be found on the following URL link:
http://hcilondon.in/contactus.php
For all other queries please contact the Equal Opportunities Department. Details
of our protest can also be found on the national IDAHO website, which is
www.idaho.org.uk.
