Ntl/TELEWEST - PERSONAL INJURY CLAIMS 28/09/06

Branches were notified in LTB 578/06 of the intent by NTL/Telewest to launch a Voluntary Release Programme.

The scheme has now closed and the company has advised that with one or two cases still to be resolved all requests have been granted.

A clause in the associated documentation had been brought to the Union’s attention which sought to negate any current personal accident injury claims against the company. This has been taken up with the company and they have agreed that this is inappropriate and for those members where there are claims a revised letter should be issued.

Branches are asked to bring this to the attention of members so that they are aware, and that for those members with personal injury claims they can seek an amended letter.

Negotiations between Ntl/Telewest and their potential preferred regional suppliers continue; it is expected that these discussions will conclude shortly, following which the company will engage on the TUPE discussions.

Dear NTL/Telewest employee,

The CWU has official recognition for BBE grade with Telewest, we have organised reps who work for your company and they have been sent away for training courses so they can serve you. So we are asking you in what ever role you do within Telewest to join the CWU so we can bring official recognition to all parts of Telewest. The South East Anglia Branch of the CWU is looking after members based in Essex.

What's in it for me then?

Due to recent changes in the law, the CWU can represent you should you run in to any discipline or Grievance issues. If you have an accident whether in or out of work, the CWU can look after you legally, but we want to go further, we want to make sure we are involved in your Health & Safety and work, your pay negotiations and that changes to your working day / week are done fairly.

OK I'm Convinced, what do I do next?
